Integration Matters: What does it mean?

Jim Strachan instructional leader from TDSB, responsible for the teacher induction program

 

5:30-6:00 Light Dinner (provided)

6:00-7:30 Breakout sessions focused on integrated planning facilitated by subject specialists.

Starting with Math: Considering Integration of Mathematical Learning

Cathy Marks-Krpan - instructor in the Initial Teacher Education program at OISE/UT. She is the author of the book The Write Math.

 

A Place for Drama: Considering Integration of the Arts

Larry Swartz - instructor in the Initial Teacher Education program at OISE/UT. He is the author of several books including Good Books Matter and Drama Schemes Themes and Dreams

 

Social Studies as the Content to Build Literacy

Byron Stevenson - Social Studies Instruction Leader with the TDSB. He is an avid user of ICT and he strives to integrate critical thinking activities in his lessons. He has written Africentric curriculum for the TDSB and he has taught students in the intermediate and junior divisions.

Kevin Phillips is enjoying teaching in his tenth year of education, currently teaching grade 6 in the south-east quadrant of TDSB.  He has experience teaching primary, junior, and intermediate students.  His passion for connecting his classroom to the local community, and global issues, is supported by integrated curriculum units that challenge his students and ask critical questions.  He enjoys trying new and innovative ideas and teaching strategies in the classroom, and strongly believes in teacher collaboration.   

 

HOT (Higher Order Thinking) Health Lessons that Integrate Mathematical and Media Literacy

Julie Anderson - Health and Physical Education Consultant, Julie’s main focus is implementing a Healthy School approach in all York Region communities and advocating for all elementary school students to have opportunities to be physically active during the instructional day.  It is her belief that health and well-being are essential for people to reach their full potential.

 

Science & Tech + Big Integrative Ideas = Engaged Students: Cross-Curricular Investigation of Big Ideas                                                                                     

Ron Ballentine - Science and Technology and Environmental Education Coordinator, Halton District School Board.
